This collection contains six subscription notebooks kept by agents who gathered subscriptions in Susquehanna County, Penn., for the _Atlas of Susquehanna Co., Pennsylvania_. Each book contains a list of subscribers, the number of volumes ordered, and the subscriber's business, and, occasionally, location. Some of the volumes have notes regarding the orders. The first volume, dated 13 November 1871, was kept by James Lanigan ( - ), of Rochester, N.Y., and includes subscribers from Harford and Gibson, Pa. The second and third volumes, also dated 13 November 1871, include subscribers from Great Bend and New Milford, Pa., respectively. The fourth volume, dated 15 January 1872, was kept by I. F. Manchester ( - ), and includes subscribers from Friendsville and Middletown, Pa. The fifth volume, dated 24 January 1872, was kept by E. P. Corbin ( - ), and includes subscribers from Rush, Pa. The final volume, dated 14 February 1872, includes subscribers from Montrose, Pa.

Alexander Pomeroy (1829-1885), of Rochester, N.Y., was a financier, mapmaker, and publisher. During the 1870s, Pomeroy mapped the states of New York and Pennsylvania for the United States government.
